GAVIN SPEAKS
Look, I get it.
You discovered non-duality and it blew your mind. "Wait, there's no separate self? Everything is consciousness? My problems aren't even real?"
It's like finding the ultimate cheat code for life.
And for a while, it feels amazing. You're floating above all the drama, all the stress, all the bullsh*t that used to consume you.
"Money problems? That's just an illusion."
"Relationship issues? Separation isn't real anyway."
"Need to pay bills? Everything is already perfect as it is."
But here's what I've noticed...
Sometimes we use these profound truths to avoid dealing with our very human reality.
I've been there. I've sat in meditation thinking I was so enlightened while my bank account was empty and my relationships were falling apart.
I'd tell myself "it's all consciousness" while avoiding the uncomfortable conversations I needed to have.
I'd claim "there's no doer" while refusing to take action on things that clearly needed my attention.
And yeah, technically these things are true from the absolute perspective. But we're also having a human experience, and that human experience has bills to pay and relationships to navigate.
The thing is, consciousness didn't incarnate as a human just to sit around being detached from the human experience.
It came here to EXPERIENCE being human. All of it. The messy parts, the challenging parts, the parts that require effort and growth.
When you really understand non-duality, it doesn't make you want to escape life. It makes you want to engage with life more fully because you're no longer afraid of it.
You pay your bills not because money is ultimately real, but because consciousness is exploring what it's like to live in a world with money.
You work on your relationships not because separation is real, but because consciousness is experiencing itself through connection and disconnection.
You deal with your emotions not because they define you, but because consciousness is exploring the full spectrum of human feeling.
The goal isn't to transcend being human. The goal is to be the most conscious human you can be.
And sometimes being conscious means doing the dishes, having difficult conversations, and handling your responsibilities - even when you know it's "all an illusion."
Because here's the thing... if it's all consciousness anyway, then your dishes are consciousness, your bills are consciousness, and your relationships are consciousness.
So why would you avoid any of it?
I'm not saying non-duality is wrong. I'm saying we sometimes use it as spiritual bypassing instead of spiritual engagement.
We use it to check out instead of check in.
We use it to avoid instead of embrace.
And that's not awakening. That's just another form of sleep.
What would change if you used non-dual understanding to engage MORE fully with your human experience instead of less?
